My December

23 12 2008

Ever since winter started, I haven’t really taken too many pictures.  These are actually collected from the past 2 or 3 months.   Cheque it out.

Emo Sunshine

On my last visit to Richmond, I crashed with Tayeeb at his new place.   This was right when he was waking up.

Foggy Top

Foggy Top

Surprise, surprise!  Another road trip to Philly.  This time we were returning for the 2nd MANA conference.  It was a great outing, and an amazing conference.  The weather was sort of icky, as you can see…

Between sessions at MANA, we were wandering around the convention center.  We just got through rummaging the bazaar, and were trying to figure out which place to get cheesesteaks from.

Raef

Raef

The man himself, performing at the Night of Sawa open-mic event in Lorton.  Raef came all the way down from MD to share some of his songs with the group.  Here he was, singing his song, Bread & Circus.  Jamal was captivated, as you can see..

Group Effort

Group Effort

Ibrahim brought up some friends to help him sing some spiritual songs at the Night of Sawa.  I don’t think anyone was quite prepared for the 25 minute performance that took place, but I’m sure they enjoyed it…

Marinating

Lettin It Marinate

We went out to East West Grill for dinner.  Most of us ordered cheesesteaks.  Zahra was sitting contemplative for almost half the time, and not eating.  Eventually, we found out she had put ketchup on her sandwich, and wanted to wait until it really settled in before eating it.  That’s dedication.

Modern Sculpture

Modern Sculpture

At Kabob Palace (or “KP”, as I found it’s also called), a group of us were waiting for food and Jamal created a wonderful sculpture.  He hadn’t quite worked out all of the details, so his finger played a critical role in holding it all together.

2 Eids

18 12 2008

After Ramadan, there were some Eid festivities at Dar Al-Noor and at Six Flags.  There are also pictures from the more recent Eid that just passed, or rather from the DC Green Muslims Dinner #6, which was 2 days before Eid.   I also got a roll of film developed that had pictures in it from the summer, I threw in some of those shots as well 🙂

We were at the mosque for an Eid BBQ.  Tayeeb was chilling after waiting in line for half an hour to get food.

Ali was hanging out at a Halloween bash down in Richmond.  Guess who he’s dressed as?  (Hint: read the caption)

The Mufti

The Mufti

Mufti came down to visit for the Eid BBQ.  The smoke behind her is from the grills, this isn’t a protest or anything.  Just burgers and hot dogs.

Around The Bend

Around The Bend

This was at the Butler Center in DC, during the DC Green Muslims Dinner #6.  The room got so packed that some of us had to sit on the stairs in the hallway to eat dinner.  Sarwar was chillin on the steps afterwards.

Later on in the evening, everyone was mingling and networking.  I should mention, I took these pictures using NJ‘s camera.  She edited them and added the color effect, so she should def get credit.

Radiant

This was from a program at the Islamic Study Center in Charlottesville.  Sheikh Ninowy was visiting and delivered an excellent presentation to a packed house.

All Eyes On

All Eyes On

Ibrahim stood up to give a presentation towards the end of the program and captured the full attention of the entire audience.

Pardon Me

Pardon Me

Arafat was dressed up as a prisoner, next to Shakeeb who came dressed as Obama.  Here, they’re both teamed up in a game of foosball against two others.

Sheikh Ninowy receives some guidance about the program from Shaykh Nooruddeen during the lunch break.  This program at the Islamic Study Center was focused on learning from The Book Of Wisdom by Ibn Ata Illah.

On My Coaster

On My Coaster

Six Flags hosted the Muslim Family Day, in celebration of Eid.  The park opened early and had a special section set aside with Halal food vendors and prayer areas.  All in all, it was a fun day.  I went with my cousins and had a great time, would def recommend something like this in the future.

Life Coaching?

Life Coaching?

Tariq (right) speaks with Esa after the Green Dinner.  Tariq is a Life Coach by profession, but Esa is a teacher.  Hmm, I wonder who is schooling whom?

Semi-Accessible

Semi-Accessible

The grass around Dar Al-Noor was strictly taped off during the masjid’s Eid BBQ.  I guess they really wanted to protect the lawn…with caution tape.
