Dar Al-Noor holds it’s annual BBQ and festival during the summertime, this year’s event is the official Grand Opening of the completed center. This facility serves the Muslim community in Prince William County and this event draws a crowd of about 3-5,000 annually. Here are some pictures from the event.
I caught Ghazi in mid-speech while we stood behind the mosque, waiting in line for food.
Ali’s favorite part about volunteering – grilling chicken! Look at all that meat…but with the amount of people that came, I bet it didn’t take long for all of it to finish.
The mosque arranged for a shuttle service to bus people back and forth between the facility and overflow parking lots at adjacent shopping centers. Here a woman walks to her car after riding the shuttle.
Crowds of hundreds gathered at the front of the mosque in anticipation. Special guests Tim Kaine, Gov. of VA, and Tom Davis, VA Congressman, visited Dar Al-Noor for its Grand Opening Ceremony. This is just minutes before their arrival.
During the cleanup, after the event, storm clouds gathered in the sky and strong winds scattered boxes and other loose debris. Fortunately, the weather cleared up and allowed the volunteers to finish wrapping up smoothly after a very successful event.
